Case Study

Outer Banks

Multiple WordPress sites for a family of Outer Banks businesses.

Role: Designer, Developer Platform: WordPress

The Brief

Albemarle Fabric and Floor Care Specialists has been serving the Outer Banks and Currituck areas for over 25 years — carpet, rugs, tile, hardwood, upholstery, natural stone, leather, and more. The client also operates two sister businesses under the same ownership: OBX SoftWash, offering low-pressure exterior cleaning for roofs, siding, decks, and other surfaces, and Ocean View Window Cleaning, which has been cleaning windows on the Outer Banks for over 20 years.

The three sites needed to work as a coherent group — sharing the same client relationship and cross-promoting each other in footers and navigation — while maintaining distinct identities appropriate to each service.

Albemarle Fabric and Floor Care

The most service-rich of the three, Albemarle’s site covers 15 service categories including premium carpet cleaning, oriental rug cleaning, tile and grout, hardwood refinishing, natural stone, upholstery, leather, mattress cleaning, luxury vinyl, emergency restoration, and urine damage treatment. The site also includes a dedicated My Rental House section aimed at Outer Banks vacation property owners, with tailored packages, a beach house maintenance agreement, a stay-beautiful rental program, and seasonal specials. A consultation section covers carpet selection guidance, fiber types, spotting tips, and manufacturer recommendations — substantial educational content that supports organic search.

OBX SoftWash

A new brand built from scratch for the soft wash service extension. OBX SoftWash covers roof cleaning, cedar shake cleaning, siding, brick, concrete, wood surfaces, and playground equipment. The site explains the soft wash process clearly — low pressure, biodegradable cleaners, no damage to surfaces — which matters for a service that many homeowners aren’t familiar with. A before-and-after gallery demonstrates results directly.

Ocean View Window Cleaning

The longest-established of the three brands, Ocean View’s site includes a service calculator — a practical tool that lets customers estimate their job before calling. An introductory offer for first-time customers, a careers section, and FAQ round out the site. Like the other two, it cross-links to the sister brands in the header and footer.

What Connects Them

All three sites share the same client, the same Outer Banks market, and the same contact information. Each footer carries logos and links to the other two businesses, creating a consistent cross-referral structure that works for customers who discover the group through any of the three entry points. The visual identities are distinct — each brand has its own logo, colour scheme, and tone — but the underlying structure and ongoing maintenance relationship is unified.

Reflection

Managing three related sites for a single client is less about design and more about keeping things consistent across a shared relationship. When a phone number changes or a seasonal promotion needs updating, it needs to happen in three places without anything falling out of sync. That kind of ongoing operational attention is less visible than the original build, but it’s what keeps a client’s web presence working reliably over the long term.
